Transforming a Tar and Gravel Roof to a Modified Bitumen Roofing System

Step 1: This is an existing tar and gravel roof that is being replaced with a brand-new modified bitumen roofing system. Our crew is scraping and spudding the old tar and gravel off the roof. This allows our roofers to lay down a clean foundation for the new roofing system to be placed.
Step 2: Once the old tar and gravel is scraped off the roof, the roofers then need to remove all the old material. The remaining debris is swept and shoveled into wheelbarrows and taken off the roof to be loaded into our trucks.
Step 3: Once the roof is completely clean our crew puts down a fiberglass base sheet. After the fiberglass base sheet is applied the roofers lay down the final surface, the modified bitumen.
Step 4: Once the modified bitumen is placed, our crew will seal the perimeter of the roof along with all the canales, pipes and penetrations. This prevents any leaks from entering the new roof system.
Step 5: The roof surface is completely covered with the new modified roofing system. The perimeter seals along with the canales, pipes and penetrations have been painted with aluminum paint. This will help protect the sealant from being damaged by the sun’s UV rays. The re-roof is now complete and ready to endure all weather conditions.
