What is SBS Modified Bitumen Roofing?

SBS Modified Bitumen roofing systems are a great choice for low-slope flat roofs in Albuquerque.

Styrene Butadiene Styrene (SBS) Modified Bitumen (Mod-Bit) is made from asphalt that has been modified with one or more polymers or solvents to provide flexibility, impact resistance, and strength. The synthetic rubber material is less prone to cracking and sustaining damage from the elements and can be easily applied by torch, hot-mopping, and self-adhered peel and stick rolls.

Modified Bitumen roofing systems are a very durable and modern type of Built Up Roofing (BUR) that provides increased resistance to weathering and aging because it can withstand movement and temperature fluctuations. Modified Bitumen is a long-lasting, low-maintenance material with an average life span of 20 years and can last even longer with just basic maintenance. This roofing system is also one of the strongest commercial roofing systems because of its excellent waterproofing and because it can withstand both low and high temperatures due to its polymer modification. Modified Bitumen is also layered with a granule coating to provide UV protection.

The cost of installing Modified Bitumen is competitive with other roofing materials with a similar life expectancy.
